SATURDAY, APRIL 14, 2012 at 7:30 pm
SUNDAY, APRIL 15, 2012 at 2:00 pm
The Richland Junior High School proudly presents this new production of A Little Princess, The Musical. This engaging musical adaptation of the classic by Frances Hodgson Burnett opens with a happy Sara Crewe, heiress to a large fortune. Enrolled at Miss Minchin's seminary in Victorian England, her life takes a dramatic turn when she receives news of the loss of her father, and her fortune. Sara is forced by the greedy Minchin to become a servant and live in a wretched attic room.
When a mysterious gentleman from India moves next door, curious things begin to happen. Sara even discovers that her fortune has been retrieved. A touching and beautiful score adds a magical touch to this enchanting show. "The Best Gift of All," "A Proper English Girl," "A Sunny Day in London," and of course the title song, "A Little Princess."
We hope you join our company for this family production of love and belief!

About BURYING OUR FATHER: A Biblical Debacle
February 10 - 17, 2012
Isaac and Ishmael meet to bury their father Abraham in a cave that has become one of the most revered and fiercely contested holy sites in history. Jewish, Muslim, and Christian versions of this ancient story interweave and collide, as Fred and Laura perform dozens of roles in a multimedia mix of drama, comedy, music, dance, and light and shadow magic.
Separated at an early age, the brothers do not recognize each other and each also finds it difficult to clearly remember his own childhood. Ishmael's mother Hagar has taught him a family history that prefigures The Koran and Muslim tradition, while Isaac's mother Sarah has taught him the stories as they will appear in The Bible and Jewish commentary. Together in the cave, they sort through their conflicting versions of the same events, seeking to reconcile their differences and to discover what is real.
Open seating. Tickets held at Will Call and we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the show. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. No exchanges or refunds, all sales final.

March 23 through April 15, 2012
by W. A. Mozart
Widely regarded as one of the greatest operas ever composed, Mozart's opera is a brilliant combination of stark human tragedy and touching comedy, set to music of limitless genius. The charismatic Don walks a daring path, morally reprehensible, dangerous and remorseless. Yet, against our better instincts, we find ourselves drawn to him. What makes him so fascinating? And will he pay the ultimate price?
Best appreciated by ages 12 and up. Open seating. Tickets held at Will Call and we recommend arriving at least 15 minutes before the show. Doors open 30 minutes prior to curtain. No exchanges or refunds, all sales final.

About Fifth of July
By Lanford Wilson Directed by Roger Benington
A major work by one of the American theater’s most important and celebrated writers, Fifth of July explores family ties, political activism, the aftermath of war and the challenges of finding success as a performing artist. Set in rural Missouri, it is filled with what the New York Times called “the boundless empathy that is Mr. Wilson's hallmark as a dramatist, presenting a … sober but … affectionate creed of acceptance of human failings.”
Produced by the Theater and Performance Production Department.

About Friday Knight Fever
FRIDAY, JUNE 29, 2012 at 7:30 pm SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2012 at 2:00 pm SATURDAY, JUNE 30, 2012 at 7:30 pm
The Richland Performing Arts Center and The Learning Lamp’s 5th Annual Summer Performing Arts Academy proudly present Friday Knight Fever!
Friday Knight Fever joyfully spoofs a time when mood rings and Magic Eight Balls revealed the wisdom of the world. When "Women's Lib" empowered a new generation and when disco music reigned. Bill Francoeur's music captures the essence of this unique era perfectly to create this hilarious musical that can't be beat for fun and energy! The students of Culpepper High are distressed that Rita's Roller Skating Rink, a favorite hangout of many of the local teens, must close temporarily for remodeling. At least Rita still is allowing them to hang out at the rink's snack bar. But all this extra activity at the rink is making things extremely difficult for jewel thief Buzz and his cohort in crime Delilah. Throw in school thugs Greg, Peter and Bobby, who are disguised as cheerleaders to help the malicious vice-principal and you've got enough crazy energy on stage for a disco!

About I DO! I DO! (03/07/12-04/01/12)
The story of a marriage is at the center of this intimate and nostalgic work by the authors of THE FANTASTICS. The show begins with Michael and Agnes on their wedding day and traces their life together over a period of 50 years, until the day they leave their house to the next pair of newlyweds. In that time we watch them go through their wedding night jitters, raise a family, negotiate mid-life crisis, quarrel, separate, reconcile and grow old together. The original cast starred Mary Martin and Robert Preston and ran for 560 performances. A very successful national tour followed that starred Carol Burnett and Rock Hudson.

About Late Nite Catechism - Las Vegas
Sunday, June 10, 2012 at 2:00 pm
Saint Benedict's Church and Richland Theatre Boosters with Entertainment Events, Inc., proudly present this fundraising production of Late Nite Catechism: Sister Rolls the Dice is the latest class in the sinfully funny Catechism series. The convent needs a new roof, so the order has decided to pool their salaries together and send Sister with teaching her certificate in-hand, (along with her extensive gambling experience running the Church Bingo for the last 25 years) to Las Vegas! Sister will tackle topics ranging from Magicians and Show Girls to live animal acts. Her new class will cover the entire history of gambling, as she tries her luck at some Texas Hold’em. She will discuss magic-versus-mysticism in the church, card counting, and the dangers of Pawnshops and drive-through marriage chapels! Sister will remind you that “What happens in Vegas may stay in Vegas” This is truly an afternoon of laughter and great fun! Group Rates are available for this production and we highly recommended reserving your tickets prior to the performance! All proceeds directly benefit the Saint Benedict's Church and the Richland Theatre Boosters.

The Richland High School proudly presents the Tony Award Winning Musical in a new production of Oklahoma!
Rodgers & Hammerstein's first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today. Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love's journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

About SWEENEY TODD (06/27/12-07/22/12)
The rare instance of a musical thriller, Stephen Sondheim and Hugh Wheeler’s chilling, suspenseful, heart-pounding masterpiece of murderous “barber-ism” and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th Century London seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate customers and the resourceful proprietress of the pie shop downstairs, as the people of London start lining up in droves for her new meat pie recipe! Sophisticated, macabre, visceral and uncompromising, the show has a great sense of fun, mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor one moment and gasping in suspense the next. The show won 7 Tony Awards and the Pulitzer Prize.

East versus West makes for a dramatic, richly textured and ultimately uplifting tale of enormous fascination. It is 1862 in Siam when an English widow, Anna Leonowens, and her young son arrive at the Royal Palace in Bangkok, having been summoned by the King to serve as tutor to his many children and wives. With both keeping a firm grip on their respective traditions and values, Anna and the King grow to understand and, eventually, respect one another, in a truly unique love story.

In October 1998, Matthew Shepard, a 21 year old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie, Wyoming. Moises Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theatre Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. Kaufman and Tectonic Theatre members have constructed a deeply moving theatrical experience from these interviews and their own experiences.

Ten years later on September 12th, 2008, five members of Tectonic returned to Laramie to try to understand the long-term effect of the murder of Matthew Shepard. They found a town wrestling with its legacy and its place in history. In addition to revisiting the folks whose words riveted us in the orginal play, this time around, the company also spoke with the two murderers, Mckinney and Henderson, as well Matthew's mother, Judy Shepard. This bold new work asks the question, "How does a society write it's own history?"

About The Unexpected Boys
SATURDAY, MARCH 24, 2012 at 7:30 pm
The Richland Theatre Boosters proudly present, The Unexpected Boys, a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and the Jersey Boys.
For the last two years, The Unexpected Boys have amazed audiences all over the world, headlining in such cities and venues as The Atlantis Hotel and Resort in Dubai, Istanbul, Athens, the Caribbean, and all over the U.S. They have opened for Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Deborah Cox, and Chubby Checker, and were recently featured on the season finale of "The Housewives of New York" on The Bravo Network.
This act is a musical tribute to Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons featuring such unforgettable hits as "Sherry," "Walk Like a Man," "Oh, What a Night," "Big Girls Don’t Cry," and many more!
Michael Cerbelli from Total Entertainment was quoted as saying “As an entertainment producer, if they amaze me in five minutes, then I know the crowd will never forget them … I still get accolades from everyone I run into that know them! Accept no imitation…this is the best tribute act that I have ever seen!”
Featuring ALL Broadway veterans, the Unexpected Boys weave an innocent ‘tongue in cheek’ scenario around the music of this legendary group. Don’t miss your chance to see these handsome Jersey-wise guys in an ’unexpected’ performance you will never forget!

Nominated for 11 Tony Awards®, The Who's Tommy rides at full tilt on the highs of its legendary pinball iconography and irresistible and timeless music. But underneath the aural and visual wizardry, Tommy is a story full of heart and passion; a story of a young boy's journey from pain to triumph.
After witnessing the accidental murder of his mother's lover by his father, Tommy is traumatized into catatonia. As an adolescent, he’s discovered to have an uncanny knack for playing pinball, and becomes an international superstar.
The classic '60s rock opera by The Who has been translated to the stage as a high-energy, one-of-a-kind theatrical event. The exhilarating score, with music and lyrics by Pete Townshend, John Entwistle and Keith Moon is as ageless as it is appealing.
"An entertainment juggernaut that lifts the audience right out of its seats. Tommy is the first musical in years to feel completely alive in its own moment." -New York Times
